Aeneas, The Titular Hero Of Virgil s Aeneid - 1426 Words

Aeneas, the titular hero of Virgil’s Aeneid, is the flawed Trojan hero sent on a divine quest to found the new Troy and establish the basis for the Roman Empire. Along this journey, he is pushed to his limits both mentally and physically. This strain shows him to be a deeply Roman hero, especially in the values that come forward in his actions and response to tragedy. He embodies two major Roman values: pietas and respect for family, both past and future. One of the most important values that Aeneas embodies is pietas. Pietas is a nigh-untranslatable word that means great devotion and piety, the two words Lombardo uses most in his translation of the Aeneid to indicate this value. Randall Ganiban, in his introduction to the Aeneid states that â€Å"Aeneas is placed in such a difficult position because of his pietas – his duty towards his family, state, and the gods (Ganiban, p.15).† Aeneas struggles to balance his sense of duty towards all three and the fact that despite his immortal parentage, he is simply a human man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He possesses an almost supernatural sense of duty, which is why it is very strange that he finds some of his strongest opposition in the form of the divine. Juno, queen of the gods, violently opposes Aeneas’ quest for Rome. This is marked as strange by Virgil: â€Å"That she forced a man of faultless devotion / To endure so much hardship† (A en. 1.14-15, Lombardo). Aeneas is known throughout the land for his

The Love Of Our Lives - 1177 Words

Everyone thinks they are in love when they are in high school. We believe we have found the love of our lives even if it just our first boyfriend or girlfriend. I am a victim to this. I fell in love my freshman year. A wild, random love that shouldn t have even started. A hallway craziness, my friend s like to call it. This love story, if you can even call it that, is how I decided that never again, will I fall in love with a pyscho. Walking with my friend, Katy, to French class seemed so innocent. We were talking, laughing, and really riled up from the assembly we just left. Our school cheerleaders always made us laugh with their cheers that only about a third of the class would help them with. When I say yellow, you say blue!†¦show more content†¦You didn t see his ornery attitude or the bad things he does. You saw just utter sexiness when you saw Mike. He started talking to Katy, while I just listened to his bass tone voice. Mike noticed me not joining in the conversation and asked me why I never spoke up. I don’t talk much to people I don t know, I said, hoping to sound sauve but instead sounding shy. Then get to know me. Mike gave me his number and carried on his way. Katy winked at me as we entered our French class. Never in my life, had I been so happy to finish French and get home. As soon as French was over, I pulled out my cell-phone. I searched for Mike s name in my phone but didn t find it. Maybe I passed it, I thought as I slowly went down the list of contacts. I stopped, seeing a name I didn’t recognize. Laughing, I clicked on Badass and hoped it was Mike as I texted. I got a reply almost immediately and it was definitely him. We talked for a while and then I had a realization: I never told him my name. Curious, I typed Mike another message, quickly asking him what he saved me as in his phone. It s embarrassing, was his reply to me. I doubt that. Okay but don t think I m weird, okay, he questioned my promise not to laugh a couple times and a few minutes later I got the message that would change my entire view of my high school for the rest of my life: Future Girlfriend, Even after only knowing Mike for a few days, we started dating. He carried me

It helps one to receive important information immediately, facilitate immediate deals and decision making, communicate and â€Å"stay close† with the family and significant people, and socialize with friends. Its added attributes like calculator, calendar, camera and others can also help the owner or user in various ways making life easier and less complicated.
